Product Description
Pronounced "cross king" , the X-king perfectly fills the gap between the Race King and Mountain King II in terms of application. Besides the standard version, highend, German made versions are also available in the for of ProTection and RS models, both featuringour legendary BlackChili compound. Couple this with cleverly designed tread pattern which provides ample traction yet the minimal rolling of a much less aggressive pattern. Tires with Black Chilli Compound deliver a performance that had not yet been reached. Compared to silicia tires, tires using black chilli provide 26% lower rolling resistance, 30% higher grip, and 5% longer miliage. Pro Tection tubeless-ready performace previously stood primarily for sidewall protection, but our latest generation combines a unique casing ply with a UST-style bead for Conti's Revolution Tubeless Ready design. An additional layer of rubber coated, high strength nylon the spans the complete width of the tire, not only additional durabilty, but also serves to maintain air tightness in a tubeless-ready configuration.

High quality tire.
By Dave from GA
Absolutely no issues installing the new tires and getting them inflated on UST rims. I do cheat a bit and use one cup of Stans to make installation easier and reduce risk of a flat.
I have not ridden on them yet but the tread pattern should be good for dry to damp conditions.
I do wish the tread blocks were a little taller so the tire might last a little longer.

Continentals are great tires
By Marc
This Tire Performs really well. Hooks up great and rolls out really easy. One thing I didn't notice is there must be two versions of this tire one has the sign Cross pattern in at and the other is strictly black.

Be careful - Conti X-King tire quality varies and these are the worst
By David B Haynes
The product description is incorrect, fraudulently wrong.
From the listing. "Continental took some of the best features of their Mountain King and Race King tires and rolled them into the multi-purpose X-King 29er Mountain Tire. With its ramped, offset center knobs and Black Chili compound tread, the X-King rolls fast, brakes smoothly and corners like it's glued to the trail. It's ideal for hardpack to medium-soft conditions, so you can point your 29er pretty much anywhere you please. Low-profile tread rolls easily, yet delivers plenty of traction Black Chili compound for low rolling resistance, great grip and long tread life 3-ply, 84 tpi casing is tough yet supple Size: 29x2.2"
These tires are not Black Chili. Conti's website has no 84 tpi wire bead tires with Black Chili. http://www.conti-online.com/www/bicycle_de_en/themes/mtb/cc_marathon/XKing_en.html This is a big deal since the compound dramatically increases the quality of the rubber.
Further, these are the wire bead tires with very low casing tpi. The listing is straight about the tpi spec but could indicate these are the bottom stack casings from Conti. Further there is no mention in the listing of the wire bead. You get to find that out when the arrive at your door in a really big box. As I have learned, Conti makes a number of different X-King tires. These are the worst available from Conti.
